DormSmart Freight Delivery Instructions
While we have had great success over the years with our freight delivery company, following the instructions outlined below ensures that all parties work together to get your new furniture to its final destination damage free so you can enjoy your investment for years to come.
About this Delivery
University Loft Furniture deliveries must be handled by a freight carrier because of its size.
Tracking Your Delivery
After the freight company has picked up your order from the University Loft Company in Indiana, we will email you detailed status updates as your shipment progresses toward its final destination.
Scheduling a Delivery Date
When the shipment arrives in your delivery area, a representative of the freight company will call you to schedule an exact date and window of time for the furniture to be inspected and accepted by you. If you fail to be present for your prearranged delivery time, you may be charged additional fees by the freight company for redelivery services so plan ahead.
Inspecting for Damage before Accepting Delivery
Because you are legally signing that your furniture was received damage free, it is crucial that you inspect the furniture for damage upon arrival, even if the packaging appears to be in perfect condition. Concealed damage can occur in transit. Failure to inspect your delivery before legally accepting it, may result in a later claim for damagebeing denied by the freight carrier. Here's what we recommend to protect your investment when accepting freight deliveries:
DO NOT ACCEPT DELIVERY until you inspect for damage. Have the driver wait while you complete the following steps:
- Ensure the number of pieces listed on the Delivery Receipt match the number delivered.
- Note any visible damage to the exterior of the packages. Take pictures whenever possible.
- Open the packages and inspect the contents for visible damage. Take pictures whenever possible.
- If you find damage or have missing packages, document it on the Delivery Receipt before legally signing that you accept the delivery. Be very specific in your description of the damage (i.e. 12 inch scratch on left lower side of the dresser…).
- Have the driver sign your copy of the Delivery Receipt.
- Notify DormSmart immediately of any damage or missing items so that we can assist you.
IF FOR ANY REASON you are prevented from fully inspecting your delivery (i.e., the driver is unable to wait) or are concerned that there may be concealed damage, be sure to sign the Delivery Receipt as follows before releasing the driver and accepting the delivery:
“Acceptance Subject to Inspection. Possibility of Concealed Damage.”
Again, remember to have the driver sign your copy of the Delivery Receipt. Inspect your packages that same day then Notify DormSmart immediately if concealed damage is found.
Additional Freight Services
Please keep in mind that you may need a couple of people to help you to unload and inspect your delivery if you chose standard delivery.
Life Gate Service
Freight companies deliver items on a tractor trailer which is 56 inches above the ground. If your delivery location does not have a loading dock or fork-lift and the item is too heavy to remove from the trailer by hand, then you may need a lift-gate. Consult your product description for its weight to make that determination.
